on Monday three men were jailed after plotting to rape two schoolgirls in an internet chatroom. The three men had never met until the day they came to court. It's the first case of its kind in this country that has been brought based on chat logs only.
The men met in a chatroom and then moved into an incest chatroom where they plotted the kidnap and rape of two sisters aged 13 and 14.
The police became aware when one of the men got cold feet and turned himself in. police then seized his computer, and from that they were able to see exactly where the other two men were located, down to the computers they used.
mmm so you think you're anonomous online? think not.
I never assume anonymity; I just don't do anything to bring prosecutorial attention to myself.
Serves the guys right.

hmm interesting. how did they think they would pull this off, I mean if they have never met how would they know that they had found their fellow conspiretors when they went to play this plan out. scary thought...
because first they'd look at the chat logs. then they can ask the chatroom admins for IP addresses which would tell the police where you live and track you down that way. it's very easy really if you know how. lol i don't but your IP address gives alot away if you have the right software.
darren, i think she ment how would the guys find each other. since they had never met. smile. do you go up and ask hey are you the guy that is going to rape and kidnap some girls with me/ heheheeh
smiles, shea
well it's pretty easy really. it's no different that co-ordinating it over the phone. i used to have a phone scanner that could tune into cell phones so yeah i can well believe it. it could be part of an organized ring so what happens. people are put in contact. and that's what happens. it's certainly a possibility. it doesn't really shock me.
No actually I think Darren has the right of this one. The topic is about internet anonimity. I think the point here is that the Police were able to track down culprits two and three just by checking chat logs, IP addresses and also I suspect, by tracing cookies that were probably stored on the machines by the chat room websites.
Those cookies are little buggers and really can be used to extract all sorts of information from your machines people.
